Pure attraction

A 2010 study by researchers at Northumbria University aimed to uncover what makes male dancing appealing to women—and found that certain movements were consistently rated as more attractive. Using motion-capture technology, the team recorded men dancing to a basic beat, then converted the footage into faceless avatars to eliminate visual bias. Female participants were asked to rate the attractiveness of each dancer. The findings revealed that women preferred men who showed strong, varied movements in the torso and neck, along with energetic—but controlled—motions in the arms and legs. Dancers who displayed confidence, rhythm, and coordination were seen as the most attractive, likely because these traits are subconsciously associated with physical health, strength, and overall genetic fitness.
