The theme of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2021 is "Youth standing up against racism".
“Over the past year, we’ve witnessed the deadly impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the scourge of racism has also devastated many lives with tragic consequences. Violent and deadly attacks against Black, Brown, Asian and Indigenous people, toxic language, and daily and sustained racially charged acts have rightly forced painful - but necessary - conversations to re-examine prejudice, privilege, the way we view the world, and most importantly how we act. We must take this opportunity to work towards a world that is not just against racism, but is actively anti-racist.” (Filippo Grandi, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency High Commissioner)
This is the message inspiring *our Open Statement*.
We are students of the University of Sassari enrolled in the Master’s Course in Migration Management (3M), an international course launched by Università di Sassari (#UNISS) to further develop the learning programme carried out by the Bachelor’s Degree Corso di laurea in Sicurezza e Cooperazione Internazionale (Security and International Cooperation), the first of its kind on the Italian national territory.
As 3M students, we are now being trained as a future support to integration and policy-making processes in the field of “Mediation and multi-cultural integration in immigration” (Curriculum 1) and “Planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of migration flows” (Curriculum 2).
During the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2021, we reinforce our commitment towards a “brighter future based on cross-cultural dialogue and support”.
