And that unpleasant “afternoon sorrow” of mine, gone! The opening scene is 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞. Two faceless women scramble across the scene in a clumsy attempt to relate to each other. A struggle? A tangle of flesh? Their knees and feet bear the mark of dance. Their bodies, lively and responsive. A few elements suggest the upcoming construction of a set. The chromatic chiasmus, the forced breaths, translations which remind of the moving targets at the shooting range, and then ... 𝐢𝐬 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧?!? Hmmm... smells like IG here.... “𝑆𝑜, ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝑜𝑛 𝐼𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑚? 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑓𝑎𝑐𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒…” Yep, told you! And then, everything makes much more sense. For once, there’s no friction between mankind and social media. No accusing finger pointing at digital tools, but an awareness of their full potential. A potential that can be of use to the 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. This piece of work follows a circular path and gives some advice on how to bring to life "𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐬"! The discussion that follows is passionate. A roundup of suggestions, questions, confirmations, hypotheses. And – yes, I just can’t help it – unsolicited suggestions of mine! Which are, most likely, worthless! eheh 𝑆𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑒: The opening scene with the "faceless" bodies has sort of haunted me during the whole performance. I have had a fair amount of exposure to Chinese people in my life and I can’t help but wonder whether it’s a reference their fear of 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 (miànzi) and the importance they attach to social standing.
