"I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood. [...]

My silences had not protected me. Your silence will not protect you. But for every real word spoken, for every attempt I had ever made to speak those truths for which I am still seeking, I had made contact with other women while we examined the words to fit a world in which we all believed, bridging our differences. And it was the concern and caring of all those women which gave me strength and enabled me to scrutinize the essentials of my living."

"Sono arrivata a convincermi più e più volte che ciò che è più importante per me deve essere detto, reso verbale e condiviso, anche a rischio di essere ferito o frainteso. [...]

I miei silenzi non mi hanno protetto. Il vostro silenzio non vi proteggerà. Ma per ogni verità pronunciata, per ogni tentativo di dire quelle verità che sto ancora cercando, ero entrata in contatto con altre donne mentre esaminavamo le parole per adattarle a un mondo in cui tutte credevamo, colmando le nostre differenze. Ed è stata la preoccupazione e la cura di tutte quelle donne a darmi forza e a permettermi di esaminare l'essenziale della mia vita".
